Tom Perna
Executive Chairman
Tom recently retired as the Senior Executive Vice President at The Bank of New York, where he was responsible for relationship management, client services, product management and operations for several of the Bank's businesses including domestic and global custody, government securities clearance, securities lending, mutual funds custody, unit investment trust and the banking needs of the financial services, government, and securities industries.
Tom joined The Bank of New York in February 1986, when the bank acquired Fidata Trust Company (Bradford Trust Company), an innovative supplier of processing services to the institutional marketplace, where Tom served as president and chief executive officer. Prior to joining Fidata, Tom served in systems and operations positions with the New York Stock Exchange member firms of DeCoppett & Doremus and H. Hentz & Company. He served on the Boards of Directors of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), Euroclear Bank S.A. and Euroclear Clearance System Plc and is a member of a number of banking and securities industry associations.
Peter Borish
Director
Peter is Chairman and CEO of Computer Trading Corporation, an actively managed hedge fund which focuses on macroeconomic investing. In 1995, Mr. Borish, formed Computer Trading Corporation (CTC) to manage assets in the derivative markets using trading and risk management models created by Mr. Borish. Mr. Borish is also an investor in and a member of the Board of Quadriserv, Inc. Quadriserv is a technology driven securities lending platform, which emphasizes price transparency and process efficiency. Previously, Mr. Borish was Senior Managing Director and then Chairman of the Board of Directors of OneChicago, LLC as well as CEO of Twinfields Capital Management.
From 1986 to 1994, Mr. Borish led a team of researchers, traders and systems developers at Tudor Investment Corporation, where he was a founding partner. From 1982 to 1985, Mr. Borish was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where he monitored foreign exchange futures and options.
Mr. Borish is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Robin Hood Foundation and Math for America. He is also a member of the Youth Board of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. Mr. Borish is also active in the futures industry. He was a special advisor to Board of Directors of the Chicago Board of Trade and a board member of the Futures Industry Association for a decade. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Institute for Financial Markets (a not-for-profit, educational institute). Mr. Borish was a member of the Presidential Task Force on Market Mechanisms (the "Brady Commission") that studied the stock market decline of October 1987. He holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from the Gerald R. Ford School for Public Policy Studies at the University of Michigan and a B.A. in economics from the same university.
Alex Ferrara
Director
Alex Ferrara is a vice president with Bessemer Venture Partners. Alex focuses on investments in financial services technologies, software, technology enabled services, and digital media. He serves on the boards of Quadriserv, SelectMinds, Sparter, and Yodle. Alex is also involved with Bessemer's current investments in Zopa, Revver, Pure Networks, Gerson Lehrman Group, and Soleil Securities, and fig and was part of the investment team for SiteAdvisor (acquired by McAfee) and Skype (acquired by Ebay).
Prior to BVP, Alex worked at Goldman Sachs in Technology Investment Banking, where he was involved with merger advisory and corporate finance, primarily in the IT services and software sectors. Alex previously worked as a software engineer for Salomon Brothers and as a derivatives trader on the New York Board of Trade.
Alex holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
Alex Magaro
Director
Alex Magaro joined Renaissance Technologies as a principal in 2003 and is currently responsible for co-managing Meritage, a $4.5B fundamentally-oriented fund which invests primarily for the benefit of the Renaissance principals.
From 2000-2003, Alex was a partner at Topspin Partners, a private equity fund affiliated with and seeded by Renaissance, where he focused on traditional leveraged buyouts as a generalist
Prior to Topspin, Alex invested in a leveraged buyout of McIntyre Associates in 1995, a staffing services firm. He joined McIntyre as its principal owner and CEO and subsequently grew the business substantially, selling it in 2000.
Alex received an AB from Harvard College where he majored in Economics, graduating with Honors. He was both a Harvard College Scholar and John Harvard Scholar.
Todd Simkin
Director
Todd is an Associate Director with Susquehanna International Group, LLP (SIG). Todd oversees SIG’s global private equity and venture capital businesses, new business development, and development program recruiting. Prior to these roles, Todd traded international and domestic equity derivatives on behalf of SIG.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Board of Trade (PBOT), the GenSight Group, and U.S. Mills, and is on the National Advisory Board of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation at the University of Virginia. Todd holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from the University of Virginia.
Rob Stavis
Director
Rob is a general partner in Bessemer's Larchmont, NY office. He focuses on investments in the financial services sector as well as in emerging software technologies. Since joining BVP, Rob has invested in independent research companies Gerson Lehrman Group and Soleil Securities; pre-paid debit card provider PRE Solutions; CRM software developer AIT Group (LSE-AIM: AGP); and Skype Technologies, where he led the A-round financing. He also sits on the board of PXRE Group (NYSE: PXT), a Bermuda-based property and casualty reinsurance company. Until its 2004 acquisition by Vestmark, Rob was on the board of the financial services analytics company LifeHarbor.
Prior to joining Bessemer in 2000, Rob was an independent private equity investor. In this capacity, he led the A round and served on the board of Arbinet (NASDAQ:ARBX), the world's leading electronic market for trading, routing, and settling communications capacity. He also managed a portfolio of interests in a number of industries, including telecommunications, software, technology, and restaurants.
Rob entered private equity after a 15-year career at Salomon Smith Barney, where he became co-head of global arbitrage trading. He was a member of Salomon's operating and risk management committees, and chaired the recruiting committee, in addition to managing a $100 billion balance sheet.
Rob holds degrees from the Engineering School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School of Management. He has published articles on derivatives pricing and risk management for financial services companies. Rob's charitable work includes serving as president of the board of WJCS, Westchester County's oldest and most comprehensive social-service agency, and as a director of The Kingswood-Oxford School and the Larchmont Temple.
Joseph Weinhoffer
Founder
Joe began his financial services career at The Bank of New York. He held positions in custody, mutual fund operations, mutual fund client service and in securities lending. In 1992, Joe joined Merrill Lynch and launched one of the first third-party securities lending businesses. In 1995, Joe moved on to Morgan Stanley and led the global expansion effort of their custody and third-party securities lending business. In 1999, Joe was co-founder and CEO of Vendquest, a business to business marketplace.
Joe is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Joe currently serves on the board of the Oratory Preparatory School in Summit, NJ.
